Much of Southeast Asia is affected by heavy rainfall and flooding. At least 17 people have been killed in Vietnam, and neighbouring Cambodia has reported 11 victims.
In addition, a new hurricane is on the way. The east of Thailand is also partly underwater.
It is mainly Vietnam with its long coastline along the South China Sea that is taking the brunt. In recent days, a hurricane has hit the coastal area in the centre of the country with heavy rainfall and flooding.
At least eight ships have sunk at sea, but the most significant havoc has been wreaked on land. The town of Hoi An, well-known by tourists, is mostly underwater and that is also the case with parts of the old imperial capital Hue.
In the area, 50,000 people have been evacuated, and at least 33,000 houses have been damaged or flooded.
In Vietnam, at least 17 people are said to have died, and there are 13 missings. The severe weather has meanwhile also moved further inland to the neighbouring countries.
In Cambodia, 11 people were killed, and the province of Battambang was mainly affected. In Laos, too, villages and fields are underwater, as in the eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand.
