Israel Attacks Hezbollah Military Positions in Syria

On Monday morning, the Israeli army launched airstrikes on military positions and a Lebanese Hezbollah arms depot near the Syrian capital Damascus.

This is reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), an NGO that monitors the war in Syria from Great Britain.

The attack in Qalamoun, northeast of Damascus, has sparked fires, according to SOHR. The NGO also reports casualties but cannot clarify the number of deaths.

Official Syrian media say the attack only caused material damage. “At 3:05 a.m., the Israeli enemy launched an airstrike in which several missiles were fired,” reports the Sana news agency. “Our air defences have intercepted some missiles.”

In response, the Israeli army says “not to comment on information in foreign media”.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks on Syrian territory. These bombings are mainly aimed at positions of the Iranian armed forces and Hezbollah, fighting alongside Damascus. Israel rarely confirms the attacks.
