Brazilian President Replaces Six Ministers

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro replaced six ministers on Monday. The ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Justice, among others, have been given a new helmsman, the government announced in a statement.

Carlos Alberto Franco França was appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Walter Souza Braga Netto is now the Minister of Defense. They replace Ernesto Araújo and Fernando Azevedo e Silva respectively.

Luiz Eduardo Ramos has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff, Police Commander Anderson Torres is the new Justice Minister. Departing Justice Minister Andre Mendonca becomes Attorney General, and Congresswoman Flavia Arruda now holds the post of government secretary.

The right-wing populist leader is gearing up for the presidential election in October 2022 and is under increasing pressure due to sharp increases in the number of corona infections and deaths in recent weeks.

The already badly affected country, which has the most infected and fatalities worldwide from the lung virus after the United States, has seen the weekly number of deaths quadruple compared to the beginning of this year.
