The threat level in the United Kingdom has been reduced from severe to substantial. The reduction from 4 to 3 on a scale of 5 means that an attack is likely and no longer very likely.
The increase in early November after the terrorist attacks in France and Austria is thus reversed.
The downsizing is the result of a “significant reduction” in the number of attacks in Europe since the period between September and November, Interior Minister Priti Patel said.
Last fall, intelligence agency MI5 said 27 plans of attacks in the UK had been disrupted, most of them by Islamic extremists.
