Singapore has a new corona wave, and the XBB variant mainly causes it. According to the Ministry of Health, this can lead to 15,000 infections per day. What about that variant in our country?
The current wave of COVID-19 is likely to peak around mid-November, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said on Saturday. “This will likely be a short and sharp wave,” Ong said. However, he also mentioned that Singapore would probably see about 15,000 cases per day on average due to the new corona wave.
“The wave should subside around mid-November.” The increase in corona cases in Singapore, an island state with a very high vaccination rate, is caused by the XBB variant, a strain within the omicron family.
The figures are also rising in Austria, France, Germany and Italy, for example,” he says. “You can’t quite compare Singapore with a European country either. There has been much less exposure to the coronavirus. That can make a difference.”
