The Russian corona vaccine is also produced by the neighbouring Russian countries of Kazakhstan and Belarus. Kazakhstan has already started production, and Belarus will begin in the first quarter of 2021.
A first dose was made in the Kazakh city of Karaganda on Monday. It will be sent to Russia so that it can be checked by researchers from the Gamaleya medical research institute. The vaccine was also developed there.
Belarus will start vaccinating citizens with Sputnik V, the Russian vaccine, from January.
According to the Russian investment fund RDIF, the drug is also effective against the new variant of the virus that recently emerged in the United Kingdom.
The RDIF reports on Monday that Russia is willing to send the drug to the west so that it can also be used for vaccinations there.
