Israel will go into lockdown for the third time from next week due to the coronavirus. The strict measures start on Sunday and will last for two weeks.
The lockdown is extended if the reproduction number is not lower than one in two weeks and if more than a thousand new infections are added every day.
In a statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that people should be no further than 1 kilometre from their homes and that all non-essential stores will be closed.
An exception has been made for people who have to travel to be vaccinated against the virus. The schools also remain open for several age groups.
The previous lockdown in September resulted in a significant drop in the number of new infections, but the number increased in recent weeks. In total, more than 385,000 cases were diagnosed, and 3,150 people died.
Israel started vaccinating people against the virus on Monday. Netanyahu was the first to be vaccinated.
