A Turkish military aircraft with medical supplies and protective equipment left for the United States on Tuesday to assist in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.
“We are proud to announce that at the request of our NATO ally, Turkey will supply medical supplies to the United States to support the US’s fight against the coronavirus,” said the Turkish authorities.
The US, the country with the highest number of corona deaths and infected people, expresses its welcome at the “generous donation” of 500,000 surgical masks, 4,000 protective suits, disinfectants and goggles.
Aid comes at a potentially crucial time in US-Turkey relations, which are under pressure from disputes over sanctions against Iran, Syria policies and Turkey’s procurement of Russian missile defence systems.
