Major world powers show a “criminal” lack of leadership regarding climate. UN chief Antonio Guterres said that after the appearance of another alarming report from the IPCC climate panel on global warming.
The risks of flooding and wildfires are increasing, the panel concludes. The most vulnerable people and ecosystems on Earth are hit the hardest.
The report reads like “an atlas of human suffering,” Guterres said. He sees it as a “scathing indictment” against the international community, which he says is failing to act.
“Nearly half of humanity now lives in a danger zone,” Guterres said. “The world’s biggest polluters are guilty of setting fire to our only home.” He calls on the rich G20 countries, among other things, to stop using coal. “Every second counts.”
