Ten American gamers want to block the planned takeover of games studio Activision Blizzard by tech group Microsoft. They, therefore, went to court in California.
The American competition watchdog FTC had also started a case to prevent the merger.
The ten gamers claim in their complaint that the acquisition of the maker of the well-known Call of Duty game series gives Microsoft “enormous market power in the computer games sector”.
However, it would also allow Microsoft to foreclose rivals, limit the number of games released, limit consumer choice, and otherwise thwart competition.
Microsoft is willing to pay $69 billion for Activision Blizzard. However, the planned takeover also earned the company, which is prominent in the game world thanks to the Xbox game console, criticism from competitor and PlayStation maker Sony.
In addition to the American authorities, Europe is also looking at whether the takeover is acceptable.
