American Defense Minister Pete Hegseth assures that the fact that the United States wants to start negotiations with Russia does not mean that it is abandoning Ukraine.
He vowed that it was “certainly not a betrayal” before consulting with his colleagues from the other NATO countries.
The US announcement, without Ukraine and European allies, came as an unpleasant surprise to them. Many European countries complained, especially because Hegseth had already announced important concessions to Russia.
Hegseth emphasized that no country has supported Ukraine with as much money and weapons as the US. But, he said at NATO headquarters in Brussels, “the entire world and the US now benefit from and are looking for peace through negotiations.”
