Max Verstappen has criticized Pirelli’s explanation for his tire blowout during the last Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
“I think it’s pretty vague what they’re saying. It would have been a lot easier to understand if they had come up with a somewhat clearer statement, where the Grand Prix of France will be held this weekend.
Verstappen was leading the Red Bull on the Baku circuit and seemed unthreatened on his way to victory when, five laps before the end, his left rear tire suddenly burst.
Verstappen crashed and retired. Earlier in the race, Aston Martin’s Canadian Lance Stroll had the same thing happen to him.
Tire supplier Pirelli concluded an investigation that there was nothing wrong with the tire quality in Baku. The Italian producer did discover a break inside the tire, which could be related to “driving conditions”.
Red Bull had also looked at the car after the incident and found that there was nothing to indicate that the cause of the blowout was with the car. “We have always followed all Pirelli’s regulations.”
