Advertisers on Instagram and Facebook will soon no longer be able to target young people based on gender. Meta, the parent company of the platforms, has announced this.
From February, companies that want to advertise specifically to young people will only be able to do so based on their age and location.
This ensures that the content of the advertisements is appropriate and useful, according to the company. Also, the history in the apps – which pages or posts were liked – will no longer determine which ads teens see.
Finally, underage users of Instagram and Facebook will also be allowed to indicate which advertisements they would rather not see.
