More and more Africans are infected with the coronavirus by someone from their own environment who has not travelled and whose virus has not been diagnosed.
The head of the health organization Africa CDC warns against this.
Especially in Ethiopia, more and more people are infected by someone from their own neighbourhood or village.
Therefore, a new strategy is needed for corona testing and prevention, says Africa CDC head John Nkengasong.
“We need to take more measures in Africa like keeping a distance, wearing face masks and washing hands,” Nkengasong told the press.
Rather than testing people arriving at airports for corona, governments should target people with flu symptoms, he added.
