A day after Germany registered the highest number of new corona infections in the last 24 hours to date, authorities in the Federal Republic report another record number of new corona cases.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM, another 7334 infections have been detected in the last 24 hours.
That is a significant increase from the 6,638 new infections reported on Thursday. The total number of confirmed corona cases in Germany comes to 348,557 after the announcement of the RKI on Friday.
Because 24 Covid patients succumbed to the lung virus in the last 24 hours, the official death toll comes to 9,734.
The German newspaper Die Welt previously reported based on its own counts that the number of infections in the past seven days is 69 percent higher than the week before. The number of corona infections in Germany has doubled in fourteen days, according to the newspaper.
Germany is now bracing itself for the second wave of contamination and has imposed additional measures. German Health Minister Jens Spahn said keeping schools, childcare and the economy open is the most important thing.
“There are currently too many people who do not comply with the rules. The coming days will show whether the new measures work.”
