Bahrain Permanently Replaces Melbourne As the Opening Race for Formula 1

Formula 1 will not start this year with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The traditional season opener moves to November 21 due to the ongoing corona pandemic.

The Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28 is now the first race of the season.

The travel restrictions due to the corona pandemic have also meant that the Grand Prix of China will not be held on the planned date in April, but in principle also moved to another date later in the year.

Formula 1 management is in talks about this with the organization of the race in Shanghai.

“We are pleased that the number of scheduled races for the coming season remains unchanged,” said new Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali. “The global pandemic still doesn’t allow an everyday life, but in 2020 we were the first international sport to show that safe racing was possible.

We now have that experience and are planning a full season in 2021.”
