The Mercedes Formula 1 team has officially presented George Russell as the successor to Valtteri Bottas.
The 23-year-old Briton will take over from Valtteri Bottas after this season, who switches to Alfa Romeo. Russell will be a teammate of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at the German racing stable.
Russell is in his third season in Formula 1 with Williams, one of the teams in the rear.
Last year he was allowed to replace Hamilton at Mercedes in the Sakhir Grand Prix when the factory team leader had tested positive for the coronavirus. However, in recent weeks, Russell’s move from Williams to Mercedes has been in the air.
In the rained-out Belgian Grand Prix, the Briton recently finished second behind Max Verstappen and Hamilton in his Williams. That was his best result in Formula 1.
