European Commission is Dampening Hopes for A Quick Vaccine

Europeans cannot count on being able to be quickly vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“It will be months before a vaccine is found and distributed to the population,” warns Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič of the European Commission.

For the time being, the fight against the virus will stand or fall with keeping your distance and hygiene, Šefčovič said in the European Parliament. “Nobody wants a second lockdown.”

The committee has already concluded contracts with manufacturers of promising vaccines.

On Wednesday, Brussels closed the final purchase of 400 million doses of a corona vaccine that is being made under the leadership of the Leiden pharmaceutical company Janssen.

Previously, the committee concluded similar contracts for hundreds of millions of vaccines with AstraZeneca and Sanofi-GSK.
