Israel has more than five million residents fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The country got off to a strong start in mid-December with a vaccination campaign that is one of the most successful in the world.
Health Minister Yuli Edelstein calls the new milestone “a tremendous achievement for the health system and the people of Israel”.
Thanks to the vaccinations, Israel has managed to significantly reduce the number of infections and deaths, allowing the economy to be reopened. The country with nine million inhabitants now has about 160 seriously ill corona patients. At the end of January, there were 1,200.
The government is increasingly relaxing measures against the spread of the coronavirus, especially for people who have already been vaccinated or have recovered from an infection.
Since last Sunday, mouth masks are no longer required outside. These still have to be used in indoor locations.
