France has been shocked by the brutal attack on a bus driver. He refused to take passengers in southern Bayonne who did not wear the mandatory masks and who did not have tickets.
The driver, who is in his fifties, is said to have been repeatedly beaten and ended up with a severe head injury in the hospital.
A source within the police says that doctors declared him brain dead on Monday.
Other bus drivers left work after the attack. French media reports that several arrests have been made.
