The right-wing extremist Stephan Ernst has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Frankfurt for the political murder of the German regional administrator Walter Lübcke.
Ernst shot the Christian Democratic politician in 2019 in the north of the state of Hesse.
The suspect has long denied but eventually made a confession and expressed regret. The prosecutors had demanded life imprisonment with precautions against his early release.
Lübcke was a well-known figure in Hesse who, among other things, committed himself to the fate of refugees. The murder shocked Germany.
