The American technology group Microsoft allows a union delegation for the first time in its 47-year history. This is done at the request of the employees in the video game branch ZeniMax Studios. That company developed, among other things, the popular game ‘Doom’.
Microsoft is thus following a trend because earlier, there were also attempts at other tech companies, such as Apple, Amazon and Google, to allow union representation in the workplace. According to experts, this struggle is related to the sharp rise in longevity.
The trade union CWA (Communications Workers of America) is pleased with the admission of a trade union representative at Microsoft’s subsidiary ZeniMax. “Many companies have consciously followed a dissuasion policy. Microsoft is taking a different course that will benefit corporate culture and customer service,” said CWA President Chris Shelton. He hopes this can serve as “an example for the industry”.
The union will represent some 300 quality controllers at ZeniMax Studios, who work in Maryland and Texas. The union should negotiate collective wages and working conditions in the future.
