The pick-up in tourism means good news for the Turkish treasury. For the first time in nine months, a current account surplus was recorded in August, the Turkish central bank reported.
The balance in the important summer month was converted to 445 million pounds positive, whereas it was 3.2 billion pounds negative a year earlier.
Economists generally assumed that there would be a small deficit in August. However, the current deficit over twelve months decreased to almost 19 billion pounds.
Due to the corona crisis, tourism to Turkey has largely disappeared. Therefore, the people were advised, among other things, not to travel to Turkey.
Even now, the travel advice of the government of Turkey is orange, which means that you should only travel to the country if this is strictly necessary.
