If Western countries supply long-range weapons to Kyiv, it could lead to a dangerous escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Kremlin made this statement on Thursday.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov thus warns against the supply of “weapons capable of striking Russian territory”. “That is potentially very dangerous. It would mean that the conflict is reaching a new level, which does not bode well for European security.”
Since the war in Ukraine started, Western countries have refused to supply long-range missiles to Kyiv so as not to escalate the conflict further.
Peskov says Ukraine is already carrying out attacks on Russian territory “every day”. Moscow has accused the Ukrainian military of drone strikes against annexed Crimea and targets in Russia hundreds of kilometres from the Ukrainian border, including the Russian military airfield of Engels in December.
