Sky News: Microsoft Wants to Lay off Five Percent of Its Staff

Tech group Microsoft will announce within a few days that it will cut thousands of jobs. British news channel Sky News claims this without clarifying the message’s source.

It would be about five percent of the total workforce of more than 220,000 people. So that would mean that more than eleven thousand jobs would disappear.

Microsoft will announce its financial results next week. However, any round of layoffs is expected to be announced before then so that they do not overshadow the results.

If Microsoft cuts its workforce, it’s not the only tech company. Amazon announced this month that it would cut 18,000 jobs. Maker of business software Salesforce announced that it wanted to continue with eight thousand people less, and Facebook mother Meta Platforms cut about eleven thousand jobs.

Microsoft already warned in October that its cloud activities are not running as well as in recent years. In addition, American company has suffered from the strong dollar.
