Russian soldiers have arrived in Belarus and are preparing joint exercises with the Belarusians. As a result, Moscow and Minsk have announced major military manoeuvres for February 10-20.
The Belarusian Ministry of Defense reports that the troops will test their preparedness in the face of mounting tensions on the country’s western and southern borders.
Belarus borders Ukraine and Poland, among others. Russia and the West have protracted conflicts over Ukraine. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will meet in Moscow on Tuesday with her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
On Monday, she did so in Kyiv with her Ukrainian colleague Dmitro Kuleba. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will receive NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg in Berlin on Tuesday to discuss the tension with Russia.
