Study: Young People Recover Well From Rare Inflammation After Injection

Young people who suffer from myocarditis after a corona vaccination, an inflammation of the heart muscle that rarely occurs after the injection, generally recover entirely quickly. American researchers have come to that conclusion.

The scientists affiliated with Harvard have analyzed data from 139 teenagers and young adults who suffered from an inflamed heart muscle. In any case, the condition mainly occurs among young people.

In nine out of ten cases, the remarkable side effect followed the second shot, usually two days after administering a so-called mRNA vaccine. The corona vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna fall within that category. In addition, nine out of ten patients were boys and men.

The most common symptom the youth experienced was chest pain. About 30 percent also suffered from fever and shortness of breath. Most went to the hospital with these complaints. Nearly one in five (18.7 percent) was briefly admitted to an intensive care unit. In about an equally large group, the function of the left ventricle was slightly disturbed.

However, the study said that in all of the patients who returned for a follow-up appointment, the heart returned to normal function. Therefore, all the young people survived.

The results appeared in the scientific journal Circulation, which the American Heart Association published. President Donald Lloyd-Jones of the doctors’ organization, who was not involved in the study himself, notes that the benefits of corona vaccination also for young people “far outweigh the infrequent risks of adverse effects”.
