Tesla Opens New Factory in Mexican Industrial City of Monterrey

The American manufacturer of electric cars, Tesla, opens a factory in northern Mexico, the Mexican head of state Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced. The factory is being built in the industrial city of Monterrey.

According to López Obrador, Tesla CEO Elon Musk makes a significant investment in the Latin American country. The factory also provides many jobs. With the announcement, weeks of speculation comes across in which country Tesla will establish its new factory.

Tesla committed to using recycled water throughout the entire production process of electric cars. That also applies to the paint of cars, says the Mexican president. That commitment has to do with water scarcity in the area. According to the president, more details will come out on Wednesday, and then Tesla will invest in investors.

It is about the first factory Tesla south of the American border and is part of Musk’s plans to expand global production. BMW and General Motors, among others, have also announced plans to invest in producing electric cars in Mexico.
