There are Now Three Billion Active Android Devices in Circulation

Striking figure from Google: the company now has 3 billion active Android devices. The news was announced at the Google I / O developer conference.

That is immediately five hundred million more than were announced at the I / O conference last year. The previous significant milestone, 2 billion, was in 2017, so it is not the case that the number of Android devices continues to increase exponentially.

However, the actual number of Android-based devices is probably even higher. Google bases its measurement on the Google Play store. This means that devices that use their own app store or omit Google’s app services, such as a range of Chinese devices, were not counted.

All this means that there are now a lot of smartphones in circulation. For example, earlier this year, Apple also announced that there are a billion active iPhones in circulation. Android remains the dominant operating system here, with three times more devices.
