WHO Chief Calls Vaccination Mandatory Last Resort

Hans Kluge, Europe director of the World Health Organization (WHO), sees mandatory vaccination as “the last resort” in the fight against the corona pandemic.

At a press conference on Tuesday, he said that this could only be chosen if all other measures to increase the vaccination rate have had an insufficient effect.

In several European countries, there is now a discussion about compulsory vaccination. There is an actual proposal to introduce a duty in Germany, which still has to be voted on in parliament. Austria plans to introduce a general vaccination requirement on February 1.

The WHO also called on Tuesday to better protect children aged 9 to 14 against corona due to the high number of infections in that age group.
