Wimbledon Says Goodbye to Middle Sunday in 2022

Wimbledon will say goodbye to the traditional “Middle Sunday”. The seventh day of the main tournament will never be played unless the schedule has been delayed a lot.

From 2022, Wimbledon will therefore have fourteen instead of thirteen match days.

“This allows us to expand our reach at an important time, both in the UK and globally. It will also make the schedule fairer,” said Chairman Ian Hewitt.

“We can make this decision thanks to improved grass technologies and maintenance. “

Wimbledon, which starts on Monday, June 28, also announced that it hopes to welcome at least 25 percent of the total capacity of visitors. The tournament was cancelled last year.
