China cites US allegations that the country is stealing intellectual property in the US, in a Foreign Affairs statement libel.
The Washington government has ordered the closure of the Chinese Consulate in Houston. Beijing has reacted furiously.
According to The South China Morning Post, it would now consider ordering the Americans to close the consulate in Chendu, a city of approximately 10 million inhabitants in central China.
Washington states that Chinese hackers, with the help of the Chinese secret service, among other things, break into American companies to steal sensitive information.
Relations between Washington and Beijing are already bad because of disputes about trade. This corona pandemic broke out in China and the growing Chinese involvement in the former British colony of Hong Kong.
The Chinese Consulate in Houston is one of five that China has in the United States in addition to the Embassy in Washington.
It has been the oldest consulate of the People’s Republic in the US since it opened in 1979.
