Hamas CEO in Gaza Strip Also Infected With Coronavirus

The Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip has tested positive for the coronavirus. 58-year-old Yahya Sinwar, one of the most influential figures in the radical Islamic organization, is doing well under the circumstances, according to his office.

The Hamas chief belongs to a growing group of corona patients in the densely populated coastal area, which borders Israel and Egypt.

The local health ministry announced on Tuesday that 815 new corona infections and nine deaths had been reported in the previous 24 hours.

Since the start of the pandemic, more than 21,000 corona cases have been reported in the Gaza Strip, which is home to some 2 million people.

At least 111 patients died from the virus. UN agency UNRWA has warned that the health care system in the area could collapse due to the corona crisis.
