Instagram Adds Even More Ads

To combat declining revenues, Meta has announced that it will add ‘slots’ for advertisements in various places on Instagram.

Things are not going great with Instagram. This should be apparent from a financial quarter in which advertising revenues for the photo platform fell. To counter that and possibly send even more people to TikTok, Instagram is now announcing new ad slots.

They are part of a series of announcements to advertisers, including a music database for ads and the ability to insert ad videos between two reels while scrolling. Advertisers now also get a place on user profiles and on the Explore homepage.

For example, this should make Reels, the TikTok clone of Meta, profitable, but the question is whether Instagram users are waiting for this. The platform has clearly struggled with competition from the Chinese video clip app for months, but attempts to go after TikTok have previously been met with protest from users.

In July, the platform was already forced to reverse some adjustments after criticism from influencer Kylie Jenner, among others. For example, putting more ads on their different feeds may not improve the user experience.
