Number of Deaths From Covid-19 in Belgium Above 16,000

The number of corona patients in Belgium that died has passed 16,000, reports the health institute Sciensano. Since the outbreak, 16,077 people have died from Covid-19.

The number of confirmed corona cases since the start of the pandemic stands at 564,967.

The number of new infections, hospital admissions and deaths in the southern neighbours continues to decline.

In the past week, an average of 270 patients was admitted each day, 29 percent less than the week before. Yet there are still 4,570 patients in hospitals with Covid-19, of which 1071 patients in intensive care units.

On Friday, the federal and regional authorities will discuss the developments. Belgian retailers hope to reopen the non-essential stores.

They find it incomprehensible that they should remain closed, while clothing stores in neighbouring countries, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France, for example, are open.
