Czech Republic President Calls Black Lives Matter Racist

Czech Republic President Milos Zeman has described the slogan “Black Lives Matter” as “racist”.

He said that during a visit to the U.S. ambassador to Prague to celebrate U.S. National Day on July 4, Pravo newspaper reported on Wednesday.

As a reason, the 75-year-old president argued that all lives count. He criticized the riots in the streets of major American cities and the destruction of statues.

The Black Lives Matter movement is against racism and police brutality.

There have been protests worldwide since the death of black American George Floyd in a brutal police crackdown a month ago.

Zeman, who has headed his country since March 2013, repeatedly stirs up controversy with provocative statements.

As head of state, he has predominantly representative duties, but he is considered an influential opinion maker in the Czech Republic.
