In India, a record number of 6,148 people infected with the coronavirus has died in 24 hours. This brings the total death toll to 359,676.
The new number of infections has risen by 94,052 to more than 29.2 million.
India is one of the hardest-hit countries globally by the coronavirus, and only the US has more infections. This is partly due to the so-called delta variant of the coronavirus, which is a lot more contagious than previous variants.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that all adult Indians can be vaccinated against corona for free from June 21.
The federal government will also take over the vaccination policy of the federal states.
