Two Iranians who were infected with the new coronavirus died. Local media reported this shortly after the Iranian Ministry of Health announced that the virus had also been discovered in Iran.
The corona cases were recorded in the holy city of Qom. The patients died in the hospital.
The infection was discovered after the authorities opened an investigation when possible cases had been reported in Qom.
It is not the first time that the virus has emerged in the Middle East. The United Arab Emirates already reported illnesses last month.
The new coronavirus has spread from China around the world since December. The Chinese authorities have since reported 74,000 infections. More than 2000 patients have died.
