European Commission Investigates Booking Systems In Aviation

European Commission investigates Booking systems in Aviation. The European Commission will research reservation systems within the aviation sector.

In particular, the links between IT service providers Amadeus and Sabre on the one hand and airlines and travel agencies on the other hand are examined.

Sabre and Amadeus are platform companies that supply booking systems and software with which airline seats can be reserved.

These providers may infringe the competition rules of the European Union.

According to Brussels, there are concerns about the open market for reservation systems.

Possibly specific arrangements in contracts with the American Sabre and the Spanish Amadeus lead to airlines being restricted in their liberty of choice.

As a result, consumers could ultimately be more expensive.

The European Commission emphasises that opening an inquiry does not automatically mean that those involved are guilty.
