Yemen Rebels Report First Corona Infection in Capital

The Houthi insurgents in Yemen have first reported a coronavirus infection. It concerns a Somali who was found dead in a hotel in the capital Sanaa, which is in the hands of the rebels.

Houthi Minister of Health says medical teams took a look at the hotel after reporting a suspicious situation.

A laboratory later determined that the deceased Somali had been infected with the coronavirus.

The situation in Yemen, the poorest country in the Arabian Peninsula, is in danger of deteriorating further due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A bloody civil war rages in the country and some 80 percent of the population is dependent on humanitarian aid.

So far, 21 infections and 3 deaths have also been reported in areas owned by the Yemeni government. The actual number of infections may be much higher.

The World Health Organization warns that only 200 corona tests have been conducted in the country.
